Cancer Screening
(Pap smear, Colposcopy, HPV)
Our Cancer Screening Services focus on the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer, helping women stay healthy and informed. Regular screening can detect abnormal changes in cervical cells before they turn into cancer, allowing for early and effective treatment.
1. Pap Smear (Papanicolaou Test)
What it is
A simple, quick test that collects cells from the cervix to detect precancerous or cancerous changes.
Who should get it
Women aged 21 to 65, every 3 years (or as advised by your doctor).
Purpose
- Detects abnormal cells early
- Prevents progression to cervical cancer
- Usually done during a pelvic exam
2. HPV Testing
What it is
A test that checks for the human papillomavirus (HPV) — the most common cause of cervical cancer.
When it’s used
- Along with a Pap smear (co-testing), especially in women over 30
- When Pap smear results are unclear or abnormal
Benefits
- Identifies high-risk HPV strains
- Helps assess risk and need for further tests
3. Colposcopy
What it is
A follow-up procedure if a Pap smear or HPV test shows abnormal results. It involves using a special microscope (colposcope) to closely examine the cervix.
Why it’s done
- To identify the location and severity of abnormal cells
- To guide biopsy if needed
- Usually done in an outpatient setting, takes about 15–30 minutes
